Southern California Greater Los Angeles is larger than life and it is packed with wondrous places to explore, sights to see and interesting people to rub elbows with. Its five-county area covers 34,149 square miles, has 88 incorporated cities and is home to one of the worlds most culturally diverse populations. The regions landscape reaches from posh desert oases and alpine recreation areas to the Pacific Coast with its 81 miles of pristine beaches. The climate is ideal throughout the year and many of the states. Philadelphia, by Kitty Cayo Last year, two million people visited Center Citys Independence National Historic Park, the most since its founding in 1776, and by August of 2005, 2004 numbers were already exceeded. But do not be discouraged by crowds. Like the rest of the city, the park is well-managed and knows how to cater to groups. The Independence Visitor Center in the park accommodates visitors with an efficient staff providing city and regional tourist information. Central Arizona, by Elana Andersen Arizonas main gateway is Phoenix and an ideal location for basing a hub-andspoke itinerary. You can travel no more than 30 miles in any direction and arrive at one or more areas offering a selection of enjoyable touring sites and activities. Here is a sampling of what is available. Oklahoma, by Kelley Thompson In the fertile northeastern corner of Oklahoma, there lies a well-kept secret. Quiet retreats and state parks pepper the Caves and Prairie ecoregion, seasoning the serenity of th lush landscape, while historic centers transport the visitor to a time of military importance and native vigor. Washington Gig Harbors visitors bureau has developed nine packages that are ideal for groups. The packages focus on visitor participation in special events that are held at various times of the year, many ideal for travelers having special interests and hobbies. Its Better Homes and Gardens itinerary, June 24-26, features tours of the Fix and Kadzik homes which were recently featured in the magazine for which the tour is named. Virginia, the old Dominion As the state prepares for the 400th anniversary of the settlement in Jamestown in 2007, two new trail programs concluded this year and an African American Trail and Rails to Trails program are underway. Just last month the commonwealth became the first state with a statewide birding and wildlife trail. The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has just opened the third and final area of the trail. Honolulu Visitors to Honolulu have a wide variety of choices for Hawaiian entertainment. These range from Hawaiian shows to live Hawaiian music and entertainment. Lets look at some options for this season, some of which are free. Creation: A Polynesian Odyssey is a contemporary show about the mythical creation of the Polynesians and their voyages.
