What to do When you’ve Deleted a File by Mistake By: James Walsh
Even in our everyday regular routine we are using data with ever increasing volumes. It may be as simple as the school assignment of a child or a list of birthdays, anniversaries etc. The issue is that each data is of importance to the person to whom it belongs. Loss of Data The loss of any data can have strong consequences for its owner. If the child has done his homework on the computer and lost the same then this event will be a major loss for him. Similarly a loss of data on clients will be a major loss for the company to whom it belongs. In all eventualities the loss can leave the individuals handicapped in some form or the other. It will be vital for them to recover the lost data. Inability to recover lost data may translate into catastrophic consequences for the people concerned. Means of Data Loss Data can be lost owing to numerous possibilities. It may be lost owing to a hard disk drive crash or some other form of physical damage to the computer. Otherwise the loss of data may also be due to a logical or software problem of the computer system. These are the general causes for the loss of data. One may not be able to do much if the data is lost on account of hardware or software problems with the computer. However the worst situation is when an individual inadvertently becomes the sole person responsible for his or her own loss. File Deletion by Mistake Such may be a scenario if a person has deleted his or her file by mistake. It can be on account of any reason. The individual may be removing the clutter from his or her computer system. In so doing he or she may accidentally delete an important file also. If one does not pay attention on time then the person can end up emptying the recycle bin and losing the given file. This way the person ends up digging his or her own grave by mistake. Having realised the loss one may not know what to do. Non Destructibility of Data Anyway all is not lost. It has to be remembered that the data on the hard disk drives cannot be completely erased. Even in spite of the deletion the given data will continue to reside on the computer till it is re-written upon. Even if it has been re-written upon, the data will still not be lost in entirety. In order to destroy data special processes such as the smelting of the hard disk drives have to be undertaken. These are specialised processes and the data storage media has to be effectively destroyed physically in order to destroy the data. Recoverability of Data This basically translates into the fact that data can be recovered. There may be several options that one has for recovering a file that has been deleted by accident. Everything depends upon the importance of the data that has been lost. On the internet a simple search operation will produce several results for DIY software. DIY or do it yourself software can be used for the recovery of a deleted file without moving out of the home or office. This is the major advantage of the do it yourself software. Advantages of DIY Software The do it yourself software for recovering lost data has got several things going in its favour. The first and foremost is the cost factor of these software. They may not be dirt cheap, yet, they are rather inexpensive. The second advantage with the do it yourself software packages is that one is not dependent upon somebody for the time it takes to recover the lost data. As it has to be done by the person himself or herself, the time taken is also in one’s own hands. These packages are being offered by innumerable companies. Most of these companies have their own websites. The given websites offer all requisite details regarding the product. It is very easy to order for these packages. They can be downloaded from the site of the given companies after making the payment via a credit card. The other alternative is to get a home delivery of the product by courier after ordering them on the internet. If the DIY software does not do the trick then one can approach a data recovery company for the same job.
