Studying at school is remarkable in several ways. For a lot of people a school becomes the first place where they get basics of education and, what is very much important, schools provide children with socialization. Actually, a child spends a lot of time at school, receiving not only knowledge but communication options as well. Indeed, nowadays schools perform social role to a very large extent and this social function is gradually taking the first place, putting educational function to the second place. However, the first primary goal of school education is teaching, meaning, giving knowledge. What does a student get at school? How can it be used in the future? What disciplines are most important for individual development?

Different children have different inclinations and talents. Some of them prefer numbers to letters, other enjoy reading stories while disliking tests they have to do during chemistry classes. That is quite natural. Well, schools were established in order to satisfy needs of pupils with different talents, while providing with basic knowledge in all major subjects. Actually, parents can send their child to the school which is specialized in humanities or science, but this will cost some money and cannot be affordable to everyone. Besides, a lot of parents prefer their child to get broad education and knowledge of all subjects, not only in specific spheres. Which option is better? It is a highly controversial issue, but nowadays there is such a great variety of schools that one can satisfy different needs. But what about general schools? What subjects are most important? As it has been mentioned before, for some pupils one set of subjects will be more important, while other disciplines will not be of that importance. However, each subject is functional and remarkable in this or that way. We cannot say that students need humanities and don’t need science and vice versa. Each discipline adds to general outlook of a pupil and, subsequently, of a mature personality. Besides, much depends on the teacher. A teacher may teach chemistry or mathematics but give students a very good idea of, say, human relations. Art, history, country learning – are all the subjects that broaden one’s horizon and give an idea of culture, which is definitely important. At the same time, schools should not only provide with information but teach children to think and develop their own viewpoints. When a pupil is mature enough to develop his or her personal viewpoint, he or she will be able to make decisions as well and it will make the process of choosing specialization much easier for one.

Schools are multi-functional establishments, providing pupils with knowledge, communication channels and opportunities to develop. If a child received an adequate push the whole studying process will turn into pleasure and gradual development; that’s why secondary education should be paid very thorough attention.
