What Inhibits Our Learning? By: Carol Miller
Our attitude towards learning is based on two major factors: to be rewarded and to avoid punishment. We are afraid of our own possibilities and choose the state of unawareness instead of the process of improvement. This is a sad truth that nevertheless may be changed by changing the way you accept the surrounding. Knowledge is a precious gift that is very difficult to get. Wisdom will not dawn on you and the assumption of the opposite makes you look even more unaware than you actually do. Learning process brings pleasure and success at the same time. You may speed up the process by putting yourself in situation where success is unavoidable. Try to make the aim the desired one and all the barriers will fall to your feet. Nothing is impossible for a willing heart and knowledge is a good reward itself. There are several obstacles on the way. Learning is a composite of other processes however the most important one is the process of receiving and processing information. To do this you have to convince yourself that you desire to acquire some wisdom. Move aside all the distractions and forget about the means you use unless they are inhumane. Choose the core and move by a radius to the tiniest detail. Volumes will not bring you anything good. Quantity doesn’t matter, only quality does. If you are determined to get what you need to be successful you have to overcome several barriers. First one is laziness. Do not believe that laziness is a perpetuum of progress. It is a serious obstacle that may become an issue and ruin your life. A word “lazy” means “unwilling”. If you are so determined to get what you want, forget about the distractions that seduce you to stop, slow down or get off the chosen path. Once you go through this one, the other is ready to stop you and that is fear. People are afraid of the unknown and to get through a wall of fear is a task for a person with strong will. Once you step by step move closer to your aim, the reward will be twice as precious. Knowledge and self-confidence are good prizes for such an effort. After going through these tests you face the final obstacle which is a complex of phoenix or the belief that you know everything. Knowledge can not be measured. A mind of a man is a mystery that was not revealed in 5 thousand years. Why have you decided that you did? Philosophers admitted that they didn’t stand even close to the truth in their whole lives. And this is a fair statement. Live and learn. A person never stops getting to know more. Mistakes are unavoidable, there are no perfect individuals. Knowledge is too precious to ignore it, besides none of the other keys fits best to the door of success. So open your door and your heart to meet your destiny and embrace the gift.
