Sport Bikes Come to Parry Sound

Every year the Town of Parry Sound welcomes motorcyclists to the Sportbike Rally for the many special events and attractions, and to enjoy their motorcyclist-friendly atmosphere for all visitors. It is a great opportunity to meet, and talk motorcycling with, Cycle Canada personnel and key people in the industry. This is a major event in the summer and it is widely growing in popularity. To familiarize the average person who doesn't know a lot about motorcyclists, here is some general information about the different types of "bikes".

To start out most people like motorcycles because the rider gets to connect intimately with the driving experience, unlike driving cars. Motorcycles can also achieve better fuel economies as high as 85 miles per gallon and with the gas prices soaring they provide an attractive alternative to the gas-guzzling car. People also are starting to choose more motorcycles as their mode of transposition because of the many different styles, each offering design and performance characteristics to accommodate specific riding conditions.

Probably the most common bike is the street bike, which comes with all of the necessary equipment to be street-ready. They have lights, mirrors, horn and muffler and generally come in two forms - touring motorcycles and cruisers. Sportbikes on the other hand are designed to handle well at high speeds and on winding roads. They offer more power, stiff suspensions, high-grip tires and powerful brakes. The sportsbike rider instead of sitting straight up has to lean forward over the gas tank to reduce wind resistance. Off-road motorcycles include both motocross bikes and dirt bikes and are built to handle jumps, bumps and other obstacles found on closed racing courses or trails. The have narrow, lighter frames and increased ground clearance. But because off-road bikes don't come with standard equipment they are not street legal.
