Samsung SCH-i730 By: sherry
Description The Samsung SCH-i730 is Samsung's first Pocket PC phone with EV-DO high-speed data access, built-in sliding keyboard and 802.11b wi-fi plus Bluetooth included. This is Samsung's first PDA phone with support for the EV-DO protocol and built-in WiFi capabilities, and its first with a miniature QWERTY keyboard. Features and Specifications Providing both CDMA 850 and CDMA 1900 modes of operation, the SCH i730 features Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PCs, and it contains a 520 MHz Intel PXA272 microprocessor, 128 MB of flash memory, 64 MB of DRAM, and an SDIO memory expansion card slot. Other features include support for "certain Bluetooth profiles," Blackberry email support, "advanced" voice recognition, MP3 player, 3D audio equalizer, and 3D stereo speakers. Its 2.8-inch-diagonal, 240 x 320-pixel LCD touch screen provides up to 65,000 colors. The new compact Pocket PC phone has an innovative form-factor. It measures 5.2 x 2.28 x 0.6 inches, weighs 5.5 ounces, and comes equipped with a 1000 mAh Lithium Ion battery. Additional features and specification of the phone include: Comprehensive Windows Mobile support-Pocket MSN Messenger, Microsoft Reader 2.0 for Pocket PC, Windows Media Player 10, Microsoft Pictures, and ActiveSync, Personal Information Manager (PIM) Backup Application, integrated speakerphone, Call Management-Caller ID, voice mail, call forwarding, call waiting and call logs, Wireless Sync, Verizon Wireless' VZEmail solution Conclusion Samsung SCH- i730 Pocket PC has everything except a camera: Bluetooth, WiFi, EVDO, and an AV remote, excellent thumb keyboard and voice recognition. Not only that, it's quite compact, especially with the standard battery. If you're a power user craving serious processing power, plenty of memory and triple wireless, the i730 beckons. The keyboard slider is well made and has nice spring-loaded action and the keyboard itself is on par with the Treo 650. The screen is vibrant and bright, incoming call volume is good enough for even noisy places and Bluetooth plays well with all the headsets we tested. Samsung includes nice goodies in the box: both a standard and extended battery, a folding cradle which can charge batteries, a stereo headset and a spare stylus. Not bad, though the Samsung isn't perfect. Battery life isn't stellar, you must turn off the phone to use WiFi and the buttons are maddeningly easy to press by accident. Yes it has a key lock slider, but who wants to use that to carry the phone from one room to the next? Gamers won't be happy that the i730 doesn't support simultaneous button presses. And of course, as per Verizon's rule, it doesn't support Bluetooth DUN.
