Recasting the election system By: Arvinder Jeet Singh
Recasting the election system Where-ever people could establish democracy, they must see that a few political parties take part in elections so that the voters may not be facing difficulties while casting their votes and when people have been upgraded as masters of a country in a democracy, they should be allowed to elect their ministers directly and this work should not be given to the Prime Minister because he is under so many pressures and can not select ministers on merits. For lowering down the number of political parties, the people should amend the law on the point and only those political parties be allowed to take part in election who are on all India basis or are with parties having all India base. The political parties and the alliances be directed to put up a candidate in each constituency in the country. By this method we shall be reducing the number of political parties and all religious and regional parties shall be stopped from functioning or they shall have to seek alliance with other big parties on all India basis. For selecting right people for the jobs of ministers, we should ask the political parties and alliances to give us shadow cabinets before the election and each member should a fit person for the portfolio for which he has been nominated by the party. His qualification, technical qualifications, experience and his conduct should be displayed before the people so that the people could understand whether this fellow shall be a fit person or he should be ignored. By introducing this system, we shall be compelling the political parties to give us right people as ministers because they shall know that the people shall not electing an unsuitable person. We shall be having right people as ministers and then we shall be going ahead with the democracy which we could establish because when ministers are not competent people, we are running the administration not through elected people, but through the appointed people who are not responsible to the people of the country. Such administration is bureaucratic in nature and not a democracy. The people of the world must consider this point and they should see that true democracy is established in their country. ------------------------------
