Reasons Why Magazine Subscriptions Take so Long

If you are like many of us who have ever waited for a magazine subscription to arrive, you understand how much our patience is stretched for the first issue to come. Have you ever thought about why this is the case?

Why is it Taking so Long!?

Most magazine subscriptions take between approximately 4 to 16 weeks to arrive. The reason for this delay period is because most publishers use mail processing centers which tabulate, process, sort, label, and mail the millions of orders received. This in itself may take some time, but another reason is that some publications like to have issues printed before their due dates.

Some magazines are printed months in advance, and each printing is pre-allocated to only the amount of subscribers at the time of the allocation. Therefore, for your address to be added to their cycle, it might mean that you will have to wait until all the printed months are sent out first.

Magazine Subscription Time Schedule

Most magazines are published daily, weekly, monthly, or bi-monthly. Depending on the frequency, you can expect different wait times before your subscription starts. As a general rule of thumb, below are some rough estimates:

Daily Subscriptions take approximately 4-8 weeks to start
Weekly Subscriptions take approximately 6-10 weeks to start
Monthly Subscriptions take approximately 8-12 weeks to start
Bi-Monthly and Quarterly subscriptions take 10-16 weeks to start

With these approximate figures in mind, keep track of your orders, use your best judgement, and make sure to contact your magazine sellers if you feel that your order has been forgotten. The sellers can normally check the status of your order and see if any mistakes have been made.
