Public Domain" make money from expired copyrights

The public domain is basically all works that have never been subject to copyright or the copyright has expired, the law varies from country to country but I will explain these laws as we go along.

The products you will find are mainly books,music,and pictures although there are others as you will see when you visit the websites listed below, you can sell these items on cd or in paper form or you can list them with a link on your website so buyers can download them, using the latter method means you have virtually no product or shipping costs.

The easiest law to follow is in the USA where they are more defined than in the UK, all items published in the USA before 1923 are classed as public domain, this means you can copy these without fear of breaking any laws, in the UK there is a slightly more complicated law in place "the seventy year law" this law states that any works by the artist or writer are free to copy seventy years after their death, but it is classed as seventy years from the year end of their death! ie say a writer dies 1st of April 1930 the seventy years would start from 31st December 1930 so copyright would have ended a second into January 1st 2001.

A popular product to sell on eBay or on your website are famous prints, you can obtain the book with the prints, scan them onto A4 good quality paper and sell the framed or unframed as many times as you like, great for car boots and market stalls too.

Another way you can profit is to make your own ebook or cd using various articles free of copyright and making them up into a book, this is even better as this will be unique to you and you can place your copyright on it.

Some articles can be obtained free from authors even though they are not classed as public domain, with these articles you generally have to leave them intact as published and include the authors name, its always best to contact the artist first but they usually agree as it promotes their business, these again could compiled into a book by collecting, for example, articles about pets then make them into a ebook to sell to pet lovers, the possibilities are endless!.
