Physical Fitness Education as Part of School Curriculum
By: George Petrova

There are no two opinions about including physical fitness in the school curriculum. These classes help the children understand the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle as against their sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. Physical fitness should be a top priority in schools across this country. It's a pity though that many district schools have to curtail or do away with this part of education completely due to budgetary constraints.

It is essential to teach these exercises to kids as their minds are impressionable and they can take this further in the later years. In certain schools, the physical education serves not only as a ground to introduce basic fitness knowledge and information but also the basis of the health instructions to be followed.

Health classes inform kids about the ins and outs of the human body, basic development, sexual education, and first aid training. If these topics are not taught in today’s schools, who will inform the next generation about these things? Physical fitness education is much more than playing dodge ball and other organized sports. Physical fitness education is about improving a child’s overall quality of life.

President's Physical Fitness program is the best and trusted aspect of any physical fitness session. In order to win the certificate of achievement here the children have to go through the various tasks devised by the panel. Since they can flaunt this certificate as a means of showcasing their achievement, it serves as a great motivation for the children to win this program.

The lifestyle of the present generation of kids is such that the only means of exercise for them are the physical fitness exercises. The lives of children are steeped in comfort with either their parents dropping them in cars to schools or they go by bus or cab in contrast with the students in the past who used to either walk, or go by bicycle getting some exercise in turn. After spending hours sitting in the classrooms usually children spend their remaining time by playing video games, surfing Internet or watching television. So, these fitness sessions are a must for them.

It's your duty to raise your voice when you hear of plans to discontinue physical fitness education program in your child's school. Talk about it to the Parent and Teacher Association or at a meeting of the school board. Try to suggest ways and means and offer alternatives, but make sure that the school continues with the programs without alteration.

It has been a common myth among parents that physical education is nothing but a distraction for the child. The importance of this session should not be undermined, as this is the base to introduce the children to a healthy life.

It is always good to motivate your child for taking part in various extra curricular activities. Set a fitness schedule for your child and make him head towards healthy living. Never forget that a child learns from adults, so you have to serve as a role model for him. Show him to live life the healthy way, by doing so yourself.
