Murphy's Law dictates that when you need your printer the most it will seem to have a mind of its own. You hit several buttons on your printer with no response. The printer has gone haywire and you are wits end. Before you throw the printer out the window to its death, take a look at the following printing problems that could be at the root of this situation. Any hardware attached to your computer, such as your printer, needs directions from the computer on what jobs to perform. You computer needs to have a print driver installed that can communicate with your specific printer. It is important to have the correct printer driver or your printer won't work. If you printer used to work, but now does not, it may be to a crash or power surge on your system. This may have caused your printer driver to be uninstalled. If you have a new printer then you will need to install the printer driver for that new printer. Sometimes you will find that paper gets jammed up inside of the printer and this will cause it not to work. You must carefully remove the paper and then hit the paper feed button to get it going again. Let's say you hit "print" and then realized that you don't have any paper in the printer. You may be tempted to stick more paper in the printer while the print job is initiating. However, this doesn't always work. The safest bet is to hit the reset button or paper feed after you put in the paper. You can also cancel the print job and start over. During the course of the day, it is not uncommon for things to get hectic. It is an easy thing to disconnect the connection between the printer and your computer. Without this connection, your computer is no longer telling the printer what to do. Remember that when you deal with changing the physcial connections on your computer and printer that you should shut down your computer before doing so. This is important because some computer operating systems go haywire or don't work properly if you fiddle with the connections while the computer is on. Restarting your computer after shutdown will help aleviate many computer problems. Before you plug them back together make sure to turn your computer off. Many systems require you to do this. Make the connection and then restart your computer. This is a safe plan of attack for many computer software and hardware situations.
