Is Your Brand New Web Site Playing in Google’s Sandbox Instead of Making Money?
By: Daiv Russell

Is yours one of the multitudes of companies which recently created a site but receives no visitors? Perhaps one of the biggest misconceptions about online marketing is that simply having a site brings you visitors who turn into customers - alas, that just doesn‘t seem to happen. An unfortunate many believe in what I call “Field of Dreams“ web marketing, thinking “If you build it, they will come.“

Do these questions sound familiar to you?
Why does internet marketing seem valuable for a handful people, but not others?
How long will it be until my web site starts coming up in the search engines?
When will [my web site] start earning money?

Is my website even listed in Google?
Simply building your website, doesn‘t instantly indicate that Google will index your website. You can determine if Google has indexed your website by looking on Google for “site:mydomain.tld“, for example, “site:free-reprint-articles.com“. If your query comes back with any results in the slightest, Google has found and crawled your site. If Google responds with the dreaded “Your search did not match any documents“, they‘ve never heard of you – they just don‘t know that your website exists at all.

How do I get my website into Google?
Certainly, you might try to “submit“ your site to Google, but that sticks you in a looooong queue of web sites trying to get indexed. The hands-down best method for getting indexed quickly is to get a link to your website – somewhere. Once you have a link to your website, and Google learns about that link, your website will be set up for fast-indexing.

So what‘s the best way to get that first link?
There are several ways to do this, very affordably. You can:
Have a friend set up a link to your website,
Post messages in an online forum, with your site address in your signature,
Post a comment on someone‘s blog and include a link to your website,
Set up your own blog on Xanga.com and link to your website,
Start an account on a social bookmarking service like Del.icio.us and add a bookmark for your website,
Write a free reprint article and send it to SearchWarp, EZineArticles, or Free-Reprint-Articles.com

The more often Google checks the place where your link was put, the more quickly Google will know that a page out there links to you. Some websites are updated as seldom as once every few months, others are updated several times an hour. The best ways to get into Google are through social bookmarking services or article marketing.

If you can get to your website logs, weed through the records for visits by an agent called GoogleBot. This is the program used by Google to search the internet. Once you see that Google has been wandering around your website, it doesn‘t take long until your site: query starts showing results. But, you‘ve seen the first step toward Google success…

Okay, so when will my web site start getting traffic?
Once your website is in Google, why doesn‘t it come up when I look for it? If you read through every search engine result, you‘ll discover that website is near the end of results for any search but your company name. And if that business name is pretty common, you‘re probably at the of that list, too.

Playing in the Sandbox…
Your website will get stuck in a temporary state that dubbed} “the sandbox“. Even [though your website is exceptionally] well linked, liked, and designed - it just won‘t wind up on search results until it has been around long enough for Google to know that your website is not a spam-site.

How long your website spends in the sandbox depends on many things and Google won‘t fess up. The vital thing to bear in mind is that online marketing is a lasting effort. There aren‘t any short cuts your website can take to outsmart Google. Google does its best to ensure that searchers are provided with the best search results. Making your website suffer through the sandbox is Google‘s mechanism for serving their clients and retaining their ranking as the premier search engine.
