Investing In A Car
By: Brenda

In order to make the most out of your automobile investment it is important that you perform consistent car maintenance. Going long periods of time between car maintenance checks can cause your car to wear out before its time. With proper care most cars can expect to pass the 200,000 mile mark with little troubles. The only way to reach and surpass this impressive mileage is to take good care of your vehicle. If you are worried about spending too much money going to repair shops invest some more money in a few courses on auto repair and maintenance. Most community colleges and technical schools offer affordable night classes that teach basic and advance automotive care.

Once you have learned the basics of car repair make sure you have a good set of quality repair tools and find out the best way to purchase quality replacement parts for your vehicle. Also contact the cars manufacture to get a good repair manual for your vehicle. Try not to rely on the internet for information on your vehicle if you can help it because accidentally getting the wrong car maintenance manual can cause a lot of trouble.

There are many ways to keep track of your vehicles maintenance schedules but one of the easiest ways to keep track of the maintenance that needs to be done on your vehicle is by mileage. Every 3000 miles you should have the fluids in your vehicle checked. Also have your vehicles oil and air filters changed. In addition to having the fluids checked you should also check your cars hoses and belts along with the battery cable and terminals. If you notice any corrosion on your battery cables it can be removed with a wire brush.

Each 5,000 miles you should have your tires rotated and balanced. This will extend the life of your tires and help your tires wear out evenly. Doing this will help avoid having to replace your tires one at a time. This can be annoying and will also make it harder to establish a consistent maintenance schedule. Always place the best tires in the front of the car and check the pressure of your tires regularly. When checking the tire pressure also check the tires tread for damage and uneven wear.

Every 15,000 miles be sure to change the air filter. Having a clean air filter will help prevent your car engine from running rough and stalling. At 15,000 miles also take the time to check your cars brake pads and shoes. Also make sure to check your brake fluid to make sure that it is clear. If you notice any strange noises or wheel shakes or vibration check and replace your brakes immediately. Do not wait until you reach the 15,000 mile point if any of these problems are apparent.

At the 30,000 mile mark take the time to check your transmission fluid level. Drain and replace this fluid according to your cars maintenance manual instructions. This is also when you should give your car a tune up which will include replacing all spark plugs and wires. Once your car reaches 50,000 miles change your cars coolant. By keeping to this schedule you can help ensure the maximum life of your vehicle.
