On a coastal plain, fringed with San Gabriel, Santa-Monica and Santa Ana mountains, there stands one of the most wonderful cities in the world – the city of angels, Los Angeles. Surrounded with golden beaches and green hills, plains with palm and orange groves and steep slopes, the great Los Angeles has more surprises and wonders than one could imagine. It is the entertainment capital, the city of reverie, city built on dreams of all those who arrived here to change their lives: gold diggers, adventurers, immigrants and emerging Hollywood stars.

Los Angeles is rather a young city, and there are no world-known architectural attractions found here. Though there are several 20-century art-deco style buildings standing in the city centre. Most local citizens live in the suburbs, in their private houses and villas, and high-rise buildings are found mostly in the city centre. There is also no historic centre as such – Los-Angeles consists of separate districts with their own history and attractions. Most popular of them are:
-Hollywood and its film studios, many of which have expositions.
-Olvera Street – an old Mexican street and a true historical spot amongst glass and concrete buildings
-Wilshire Boulevard that stretches from the city to the ocean, and its central part known as the Miracle Mile, built up with restaurants, night clubs etc.
-Angels Flight funicular railway, sometimes called “the world’s shortest railway”
-U.S. Bank Tower 310 meters high, one of the highest buildings on Earth
-Griffith Observatory and a planetarium located in a spacious park
-Los Angeles Zoo
-Malubu, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach with water warm and relatively clear
-Watts Towers – there are three of them, 30, 29 and 16 meters high
-Beverly Hills - a city in the western part of Los Angeles County, renowned for luxurious villas and mansions.

As said above, the city inhabitants and its guests often call Los Angeles the city of entertainment. There are thousands of entertainment venues, restaurants, cafes, bars etc. in Los Angeles, most of which are concentrated in the city centre, at Silver Lake, Hollywood and West Hollywood (with the renowned Sunset Strip). The city has several famous theatres, like the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County, Ford Amphitheatre, Walt Disney Concert Hall, along with smaller ones, such as Geffen Playhouse, Pasadena Play house etc.

At daytime you can visit Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood theme parks, or sunbathe at the city beaches. Another variant is to go shopping. The liveliest shopping streets are: Rodeo Drive (Beverly Hills), Third Street Promenade and Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, Old Town in Pasadena, Hollywood etc. Los Angeles is also one of the most fashionable and luxurious cities in the world.
