Think twice before purchasing heavy items at the store and transporting them around. Another way that people waste fuel, especially in the winter, is excessively warming up their car engine.

Even on a cold morning most new car engines do not need more than a minute to warm up. Try to avoid starting your car engine and then returning to the house. Instead start your car and sit in your seat while you wait for the car to warm up. Watch your cars engine thermostat to see when your car engine has warmed properly.

Lastly, watch out for where you drive. Try to pick straight, flat roads whenever possible in order to get the most out of your fuel. Avoid mountains and dirt roads or other roads that are not properly paved. Using rougher roads will often cause more revving of the engine which causes more fuel to be consumed.
