Basic Steps for Building Arch Designs with Balloons By: mohamadvijay
Balloon Inflation: Using standard inflation methods inflate the balloon to a slightly bigger diameter than it is specified to or recommended size. Using a sizing template, squeeze the over inflated balloon into the template by letting out the excess air out of the balloon slowly, until the balloon passes the template. This helps you to create or inflate balloons at equal sizes. When creating balloon clusters, twist the ends of the inflated balloon and tie to each other, thus making a cluster of two balloons. Similarly tie clusters of another pair in the diagonal axis, to create a cluster of four balloons. These clusters will be attached to the monofilaments to create the arch designs. Arch Assembling: Stretch monofilament line or nylon fishing line securely between 2 points so that it is about waist high. For indoor decorations, the recommended monofilament is 50-lb capacity and outdoor designs should be tied with 100-lb monofilament. Mount the prepared balloon cluster onto line by making a space between 2 side-by-side balloons and setting the cluster in position. An important note; to make assembly easier; mount the first cluster on a flat surface like a large piece of cardboard attached to the line, so that the following cluster will ‘nest’ easily into it. When placing the subsequent clusters on the line, do not slide balloon clusters along the monofilament line as balloons may damage/tear slightly, causing leakage. Pay special attention to the position or the shape of each cluster mounted onto line, as this is how the required patterns are created. Spot the right accessories for building arch designs with balloons; so whats the difference between cool and hot glue? Cool glue shoots out warm and will not burn the skin. It goes well on both latex and foil, needs to be applied quickly. Use hot glue for plastic pedestal or Plexiglas work, it is stronger, but will crack latex, unless applied on to the balloon neck. Hot glue turns brittle when exposed to cold conditions and may melt when the temperatures rise. Important tips to handle balloon; avoid keeping the balloons displays out on direct sunlight, when using a heat sealer make sure the neck of the balloon is perfectly flat. Twisting or tying ribbon around neck of a self-sealing balloon should be avoided, as it will cause it to deflate quicker. Place the inflated balloons in a large or big enough plastic bag for transport. Chain helium tanks to a wall or place them on a cart rigidly, so as to avoid felling of the tank down accidentally. Mark monofilament line with ribbons so passersby will not trip down, as monofilament lines are pretty strong to strangle up people.
